Dido and Aeneas: An Opera by Henry Purcell

First published in 1689, the libretto of Dido & Aeneas was adapted from the Fourth Book of Virgil’s Aenead. The opera presents the tragic story of Dido, the doomed Queen of Carthage, and her lover Aeneas, the Trojan warrior. An evil sorceress and a team of witches conspire to destroy Queen Dido and her love of Aeneas.

This award-winning production features the talents of the OU School of Music’s Opera Theatre, the OU School of Dance and the OU Independent Film Project. The production is designed with authentic baroque-style staging and dance. Julie Davies stars as Dido, Jeffrey Ambrosini as Aeneas and Rebekah Ambrosini as the Sorceress, and features the Accademia Filarmonica orchestra and the OU Chorale.
